Wolverines back in senior girls’ hoops reckoning

MOUNT FOREST – The Wellington Heights Wolverines made their intentions known that they plan to be in the reckoning in District 4 high school senior girls’ basketball Wednesday when they edged the Centre Dufferin Royals 54-53 in overtime.

The Wolverines won both the D4 senior and junior girls titles in both 2016 and ’17, but were held without a title last year when the Westside Thunder took the senior crown and Centre Dufferin claimed junior honours.

Nina Rodrigues struck for 30 points for Wellington Heights Wednesday while Franny McGowan had 22 for Centre Dufferin.

Westside leads the senior standings at 3-0 while Wellington Heights and Centre Dufferin are both at 2-1. Emmanuel Christian Eagles and Erin Raiders are both at 1-2 and the Norwell Varsity Reds are at 0-3.

Jaime Wright netted 12 points for Westside.

Tessa VanVeen responded with 13 for Emmanuel Christian.

 

Erin 29 Norwell 17

Kyla Warren had 15 points for Erin and Mesha Morgan collected six.

Kari Kabbes led Norwell with eight while Maddie Klaassen had three.

Westside 25 Emmanuel Christian 16

K. Stanley topped Westside’s scoring list with 10 points.

Deborah deJong had eight for Emmanuel Christian.
