Wolverines, Thunder to clash in senior hoops title match

MOUNT FOREST – The Wellington Heights Wolverines and Westside Thunder will meet Monday to decide the District 4 high school senior girls’ basketball championship.

Both posted semifinal wins on their home court Wednesday.

Wellington Heights defeated the Centre Dufferin Royals 31-22 and Westside downed the Emmanuel Christian Eagles 35-19.

Scoring leaders were not reported from Wellington Heights’s win.

Leah VanderByl had 12 points to lead Westside while Jaime Wright followed with 10.

Deanna Vis had six for Emmanuel Christian while Kaitlyn Niezen netted four.

Both the Wolverines and Thunder finished the regular season with league-best 9-1 records. They split their regular-season meetings with both winning on the road. Westside defeated Wellington Heights 35-28 Sept. 25 in the season opener for both teams. Wellington Heights won 37-32 Oct. 16.

Westside will host the final. Game time has not been announced.
