Zack Cameron, Mohawks knock off Six Nations
ELORA – Thanks to Zack Cameron and the Elora Mohawks, the Six Nations Rebels are no longer unbeaten in the Ontario junior B lacrosse league this season.
Zack Cameron had five goals and eight assists and the Mohawks scored seven times in the second period on the way to a 15-8 victory over Six Nations Sunday night at the Elora and District Community Centre. Six Nations had won all 12 of its previous league outings this season to lead the Western Conference while the Mohawks have lost twice in 12 games and are fourth in the conference.
Elora never trailed Sunday. The Mohawks were ahead 4-3 at the end of the first period and 11-5 after a second period that saw them score five consecutive goals.
Trent Spear had three goals and two assists for Elora while Ryan Mueller collected two goals and three assists. Single goals were netted by Justin Beaulieu, Logan Cameron, Sam Dramnitzke, Brett Harrison and Dean Sealey. Dramnitzke had four assists while Sealey had three and Nick Aitchison, Logan Cameron, Cam Coughlin, Ryan Fitzgerald, Harrison, Louie Ristov and Jonah White each had one.
Marshall Powless struck for a hat trick for Six Nations while single goals were netted by Weylon Abrams, Daylen Hill, Mason Hill, Jesse Longboat and Justin Martin. Chayton King and Mike Martin-Abel each had two assists while single assists went to Daylen Hill, Mason Hill, Colby Martin, Justin Martin and Sidney Powless.
The Mohawks made the most of their power play as they went 9-for-12 while Six Nations scored once on its two power plays. Zack Cameron gathered four goals and four assists on Elora’s power play.
Fitzgerald had 43 saves to get the win in the Elora net while starter Daniel Hill took the loss. He had 31 saves before being replaced late in the second period by Martin-Abel who had nine saves.
The Mohawks have a pair of 7 p.m. games this week as they’re to host the Wallaceburg Red Devils at the Elora and District Community Centre Saturday and play the Windsor Clippers at Windsor’s Forest Glade arena Sunday.
