Another 1-0 victory for Gryphon hockey women

WATERLOO – The ninth-ranked Guelph Gryphons recorded their third consecutive shutout victory Saturday as they slipped by the 10th-ranked Waterloo Warriors 1-0 in OUA women’s hockey play at Waterloo’s Columbia Icefields arena.

This time the goal came in a shootout as Tori Verbeek, Guelph’s first shooter, connected for the game’s only goal.

None of Waterloo’s three shooters scored on Martina Fedel who had made 34 saves during regulation and a seven-minute overtime period.

Kara Mark had 26 saves for Waterloo.

Both teams were scoreless on their power plays, Waterloo on four power plays and Guelph on three.

The Gryphs lead the OUA West at 5-2-1-1 (W-OTW-OTL-L) while Laurier Golden Hawks are second at 5-2-0-2, Waterloo (3-2-1-2) and Brock Badgers are tied for third, Windsor Lancers (3-0-3-3) are fifth and Western Mustangs (2-2-1-2) are sixth.

The Gryphs and Waterloo are to play again Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Gryphon Centre.
