Baseball Gryphons split doubleheader with Windsor

WINDSOR – The Guelph Gryphons split a pair of games in their OUA men’s baseball league doubleheader against the Windsor Lancers at Windsor’s Libro Field Sunday.

The Gryphs were doubled 10-5 in the opener and blanked Windsor 9-0 in the second game.

Arthur Kowara had five hits in the doubleheader including a home run while Sam Brown also homered as he had a pair of hits. Jaylen Wood, Noah Chang and Tucker Delaney also had two hits apiece while Nathan Fudge, Owen Vickers and Robbie Gauthier had one apiece.

Ryan Cooper pitched the shutout victory. He had nine strikeouts in seven innings.

Ethan Yabrow, Jacob Corby and Fudge also pitched in the doubleheader. Yabrow and Corby each yielded five earned runs and two walks and had a strikeout. Fudge also walked a batter.

A doubleheader against the York Lions that was to have been played Saturday at Hastings Stadium was cancelled.

Toronto Varsity Blues lead the league at 5-1 while the Waterloo Warriors and Western Mustangs are both at 5-2. The Gryphs and Laurier Golden Hawks are both at 4-2 while the Brock Badgers are at 3-1, Toronto Metropolitan Bold are at 3-3, Carleton Ravens, McMaster Marauders, Queen’s Gaels and Ottawa Gee-Gees are all at 3-5, York is at 1-3 and Laurentian Voyageurs and Windsor are both at 1-5.

The Gryphs are to play a single game against the Varsity Blues at Toronto’s Stan Wadlow Park Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
