Baseball Gryphons split doubleheaders on road and at home

GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons split a pair of OUA baseball doubleheaders on the weekend as they played the Western Mustangs at London Saturday and hosted the Brock Badgers at Hastings Stadium Sunday.

Saturday, the Gryphs took the opening game 12-5, but lost the nightcap 8-3.

They followed the same script at home Sunday as they won the first game 8-2, but lost the second one 2-0.

Owen Ellis had nine hits and drove in seven runs on the weekend while Sam Brown had eight hits and eight RBIs. Arthur Kowara collected seven hits and five RBIs while Braedeon Walsh had six hits and two RBIs, Tucker Delaney had six hits and an RBI and Jack Gillis and Robbie Gauthier each had four hits.

Pitchers Daniel Meron and Sam Kerr picked up the wins for the Gryphs while Ryan Brown had a save. Max Rutherford had seven strikeouts in 5.2 innings while Meron had five strikeouts in 5.0 innings and Logan Miziolek had five strikeouts in 6.0 innings. Bennett Moore had three strikeouts in 3.0 innings and Kerr had three strikeouts in 5.1 innings.

The Gryphs are to complete their regular season this week. They’re to play a non-conference game against the Toronto Varsity Blues at Toronto’s Stan Wadlow Park Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. before returning to league play Saturday for a doubleheader against the Queen’s Gaels at Kingston’s Megaffin Park starting at 11 a.m.

The Gryphs are also to host the Laurier Golden Hawks in a twinbill Sunday at Hastings Stadium. First game is to begin at 12 p.m.
