Bishop Mac, Orangeville seek consolation in girls’ rugby

GUELPH – The Bishop Macdonell Celtics and the Orangeville Bears gained their spots in the District 4/10 high school girls’ rugby championship doubleheader with wins in Tuesday’s consolation semifinals.

The Celtics and Bears are to meet Thursday at 3:15 p.m. in the consolation final at the University of Guelph. The championship final between the Ross Royals and Centre Dufferin Royals is to follow at 4:30 p.m.

The consolation side is for teams that suffered losses in last week’s quarter-finals. Bishop Mac lost to Centre Dufferin while Orangeville lost to Guelph CVI.

In the consolation semifinals, Bishop Mac defeated the Centennial Spartans 25-14 while Orangeville downed the Centre Wellington Falcons 27-7.

Ella F. had two tries for Bishop Mac while Hayley C., Sierra M. and Navena R. each had one. Full names were not reported.

Ayla Panylo and Brynley Huether scored a try apiece for Centennial while Zoe Cantelon converted both.

 

Orangeville 27 Centre Wellington 7

The Bears scored five tries in the match while Centre Wellington scored one.
