Bishop Macdonell claims D10 girls’ soccer title

The Bishop Macdonell Celtics captured the District 10 high school girls’ soccer championship with a 2-1 victory over the Ross Royals in Friday’s final at Varsity Field.

Kyra Jacobs scored both goals for Bishop Mac.

The Celtics gained their berth in the final with an 11-0 win over the Orangeville Bears in one semifinal while Ross edged the Centennial Spartans 1-0 in the other.

Bishop Mac finished the regular season in first place at 6-1-0 while Ross was second at 5-0-2.

The win by the Celtics put an end to a two-season grasp on the title by Ross.

Either Bishop Mac or Ross have won the title in each of the last 11 seasons – seven by the Celtics.

Both teams advance to CWOSSA championship tournaments, Bishop Mac in AA May 27 and 30 at Brantford and Ross in AAA May 28 and 30 at Kitchener.
