Cambridge slips by Guelph Regals in overtime

Guelph Regals yielded two goals in overtime as they were edged 12-11 by the Cambridge Highlanders in Ontario Junior B Lacrosse League play Wednesday at the Victoria Road arena.

The game was a close one throughout with each team leading during the game. The Regals had a two-goal lead in the first period and Cambridge was up by three in the second period.

Cambridge led 5-4 at the end of the first period and 8-7 after the second. The Regals closed a two-goal difference and forced the overtime with a pair of goals by Dylan Davey in the final 2:04 of regulation time, the tying marker coming with 48 seconds to go.

Guelph scored on a power play 2:10 into the 10-minute overtime, but Cambridge tied it 2:30 later and then won it with a goal with four seconds to play.

Dylan Goddard had a hat trick for the Regals while Davey had two goals and five assists. Marcus Visentin also scored twice while single goals were tallied by Brett Vince, Eli Blakeley, Savery and Logan Reyes. Savery and Graeme Crowder each had two assists while single helpers went to Goddard, Vince, Griffin Crowder, Ben Morton and Darcy Rybinski.

Tyler Francis-Renner had four goals and two assists for Cambridge while Jason Bonnema had two goals and three assists and Nicholas Thomas had two goals and two assists. Ryder Roberson scored the winning goal while Lukas Kucera, Dylan Gillespie and James Mackey each had one goal. Brody McGivern collected two assists while Ashton Lankowski, Korbyn Haupert, Mitchell Subject and Drake Neal each picked up one assist.

Cambridge outshot Guelph 61-49.

Anthony Fonte had 49 saves for the Regals while Taylum Sandy had 11 in the first 23:10 of the game for Cambridge. Gavin Clarke had 27 the rest of the game.

The Regals had two power-play and two shorthanded goals while Cambridge had three power-play goals.
