Centre Dufferin senior girls bounce Wolverines in hoops

MOUNT FOREST – The Centre Dufferin Royals grabbed a 32-14 victory over the Wellington Heights Wolverines in District 4 high school senior girls’ basketball play Thursday in their first of two consecutive meetings between the two teams to complete the regular season.

They’re to play again Monday at Centre Dufferin in Shelburne to complete the regular season.

Paula Gaston hit for 15 points for Centre Dufferin and Ashley Valade added four.

VanVeen had six for Wellington Heights.

The league’s final rankings have been decided as neither Center Dufferin nor Wellington Heights can either raise or fall in the standings with the result of Monday’s game.

Top four are to participate in the semifinals set for Nov. 6 with the winners advancing to the championship game Nov. 8.

Westside Thunder is first at 9-1 with Emmanuel Christian Eagles second at 8-2. Centre Dufferin is third at 6-3 and is followed by the Erin Raiders at 4-6, Norwell Varsity Reds at 2-8 and Wellington Heights at 0-9.

In a game played Monday, Tiffany Bouwers and Henrietta Thalen each had 14 points for Emmanuel Christian.
