Centre Dufferin, Wellington Heights in girls’ hockey final

SHELBURNE – The Centre Dufferin Royals and Wellington Heights Wolverines posted semifinal victories in District 4 high school girls’ hockey league playoff action Wednesday to advance to the league’s championship match.

Centre Dufferin clobbered the Westside Thunder 11-1 in Shelburne in the semifinals while Wellington Heights slipped by the Norwell Varsity Reds 4-3 in Palmerston.

The Royals finished atop the standings at the completion of the league’s regular season with a 9-3-0-0 (W-L-T-OTL) record while Norwell was second at 6-3-3-0, Wellington Heights third at 5-4-3-0 and Westside fourth at 1-11-0-0.

Centre Dufferin and Wellington Heights four times during the regular season, once in each of the four regular-season mini-tournaments. The Royals defeated the Wolverines 4-2 Nov. 28 at Palmerston, 3-2 Dec. 19 at Mount Forest, 4-2 Feb. 9 at Shelburne and lost 5-2 Feb. 13 at Orangeville.

Wednesday’s final at the Centre Dufferin Recreation Complex in Shelburne is to start at 1:30 p.m.
