Chad Herron leads Elora’s crushing of Orangeville

FERGUS – Chad Herron struck for a hat trick as the Elora Rocks dropped the short-staffed Orangeville Blitz 10-1 in Western Ontario Super Hockey League play Friday night at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex.

The Rocks scored three goals in the first period and five in the second while Orangeville’s lone goal came in the second.

Nicholas Boehmer, Anthony Filoso and Alex Uttley had two goals apiece for the Rocks while Nick Tetley scored the other goal. Spencer Gourlay had four assists while Boehmer, Luke Hoelscher and Herron had two assists apiece while Charlie Stephens, Spencer MacCormack, Brock Hoelscher, Andrew Brubacher, Tetley, Jeff White, Owen Robertson and Yianni Skropolis each had one.

Ryan King scored for Orangeville with help from Matlock Bobechko and Nathan Roe. The Blitz had 15 players suited up for the game, including both goaltenders.

The Rocks outshot Orangeville 58-37 and neither team netted a power-play goal in a game that saw a total of three minor penalties called – two to Elora.

Colin Dunne had 36 saves for the Rocks while Ivgeni Luchko had 48 saves for the Blitz.

Elora is fifth in the 11-team league at 6-5-0-0 while Orangeville is 11th at 1-11-0-0.

The Rocks and Blitz are to meet again Saturday at 8 p.m. at Orangeville’s Alder Arena.
