Concordia’s scoring spree stings Gryphon hockey men

MONTREAL – The fourth-ranked Concordia Stingers broke a tie with the Guelph Gryphons by scoring four consecutive goals after the 17-minute mark of the second period to record a 6-2 victory in OUA men’s hockey play Friday night at the Ed Meagher Arena

The teams were tied 1-1 at the end of the first period and 2-2 after 12 minutes of the second before Concordia’s scoring spree.

Zev Podolski and Jacob Winterton scored for the Gryphs while assists went to Ethan Doyle and Anthony Tabak.

Charles-Antoine Paeiment had two goals for Concordia while Mathieu Bizier, Tyler Hylland, Nicholas Girourd and Emile Hegarty-Aubin netted single goals. Sean Larochelle assisted on four of the goals while single assists were awarded to Girourd, Bizier, Hylland, Samuel Desgroseilliers, Isiah Campbell, Phelix Martineau and Nathan Lavoie.

The Stingers outshot the Gryphs 64-26 and scored on their lone power play while Guelph was scoreless on two power plays. Tanner Wickware recorded 58 saves for the Gryphs while Nikolas Hurtubuise had 24 for Concordia.

Brock Badgers lead the OUA West at 6-1-0 and are followed by the Toronto Metropolitan Bold (4-1-0), Windsor Lancers (4-1-0), Toronto Varsity Blues (4-3-0), Lakehead Thunderwolves (3-2-1), the Gryphs (3-3-0), Waterloo Warriors (3-4-0), Laurier Golden Hawks (2-4-1), York Lions (2-5-0) and Western Mustangs 0-6-0.

Concordia leads the OUA East at 6-1-0.

The Gryphs are to play the McGill Redbirds, seventh in OUA East at 2-2-1, Saturday at 7 p.m. at McConnell Arena in Montreal.
