Cutten perfect at plate as Creeks clip Kitchener in opener

The Guelph Silvercreeks clobbered 12 hits as they opened their Inter-County 22U baseball season with an 8-3 victory over the Kitchener Junior Panthers Tuesday at Kitchener’s Jack Couch Park.

The teams were tied 1-1 after the second inning before the Creeks shot ahead for good with two runs in the third and they followed it with two more runs in the fourth. The teams scored a run apiece in each of the fifth and sixth innings before the locals completed the scoring with another run in the seventh.

The Creeks committed the lone error of the game and left 10 runners on base while Kitchener had three hits and stranded 15.

Ryan Cutten went a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate with a triple, three RBIs and a run while Alex Camillo had two hits including a double, a run, an RBI and a walk. Zach Martens hit a double and had a run and a walk while Jackson Groves hit a single and had two runs, a walk and a stolen base while Sawyer Whitaker hit a single and had a run, two RBIs, a walk and two stolen bases.

Max Rutherford started on the mound for Guelph and had four strikeouts in two innings. Jackson Markwood and Judah McArthur each had five strikeouts, Markwood in 2 2/3 innings and McArthur in 2 1/3 innings. Liam Karn had three strikeouts in two innings and didn’t yield either a hit or a run. Rutherford, winning pitcher Markwood and McArthur each surrendered an earned run.
