D4 boys’ volleyball titles for Wolverines, Varsity Reds

SHELBURNE – The Wellington Heights Wolverines and Norwell Varsity Reds claimed District 4 high school boys’ volleyball championship titles Tuesday.

Playoffs, the semifinals and final, in both leagues were held at Centre Dufferin District High School.

Wellington Heights edged Centre Dufferin Royals 3-2 in the senior final.

The Wolverines prevailed by recording three consecutive set wins after dropping the first two sets of the match. Wellington Heights won 22-25, 15-25, 25-19, 25-21, 15-11.

Wellington Heights swept the Westside Thunder 3-0 (25-23, 25-15, 25-16) in one semifinal while Centre Dufferin defeated the Emmanuel Christian Eagles 3-1 (17-25, 25-15, 25-13, 25-14) in the other semifinal.

Both Wellington Heights and Centre Dufferin advance to CWOSSA championship tournaments, Wellington Heights in A and Centre Dufferin in AA.

The A tournament is to be held next Thursday at Ecole secondaire catholique Pere-Rene de Galinee in Cambridge while the AA senior tournament is to be hosted by John Diefenbaker Senior School in Hanover next Thursday, one day after the AA junior tournament is to be held there.

 

Junior Boys’ Volleyball

Norwell downed Emmanuel Christian 3-1 in the junior final. The Varsity Reds won 25-15, 12-25, 25-22, 25-22.

In the semifinals, Norwell defeated Westside 3-0 (28-26, 25-22, 25-22) and Emmanuel Christian ousted Centre Dufferin 3-1 (17-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-21).

As in senior, the championship combatants in junior both advance to CWOSSA championship tournaments as Norwell is to compete in the AA tournament in Hanover next Wednesday and Emmanuel Christian is to play in the A tournament next Thursday in Cambridge.
