Defence rules in high school field hockey openers

MOUNT FOREST – Goals were hard to come by as the District 4/10 high school girls’ field hockey season started Friday at Wellington Heights.

The games were the first in league play in any D4/10 sport this school year.

Of the three games reported, a total of one goal was scored.

Centre Wellington Falcons of Fergus edged the Centre Dufferin Royals of Shelburne 1-0. Two other games – Wellington Heights Wolverines of Mount Forest vs. Orangeville Bears and Centre Wellington vs. Wellington Heights – finished in scoreless draws. No score was reported for the game between Orangeville and Centre Dufferin.

The four Guelph schools in the league (Bishop Macdonell Celtics, Centennial Spartans, Guelph CVI Green Gaels and Ross Royals) are to open their seasons Wednesday at Centennial.

Shae Drexler struck for the lone goal of the game.

Julia Mullin had the shutout for Centre Wellington.

 

Wellington Heights 0 Orangeville 0

Shutouts were recorded by Masina Abate of Wellington Heights and Haidee Maranko of Orangeville.
