Dekoening, Minto 81’s shut out Georgian Bay Applekings

PALMERSTON – Daniel Dekoening stopped all shots directed his way as the Minto 81’s blanked the Georgian Bay Applekings 6-0 in Ontario Elite Hockey League play Saturday at the Palmerston and District Community Centre.

After a scoreless first period, Minto scored twice in the second period and four times in the third.

Robert Grant had a pair of goals for Minto while single goals were added by Riley Cribbin, Blair Buchart, Caleb Warren and Brendan Clayton. Shawn Lantz had three assists while Grant, Riley Torre, Kyle Heintzer, Cribbin, Jordan Delaurier and Trent Verbeek had one assist apiece.

Shots on net were not recorded.

Allan Menary was in net for the Applekings.

The 81’s went 1-for-5 on their power play while Georgian Bay was scoreless on six power plays.

The results leave Minto at 1-1-0-0 and Georgian Bay at 0-3-0-0.

The 81’s are to host the Milverton Four Wheel Drives (0-3-0-0) Friday at 8:30 p.m. at Palmerston.
