Early goal lifts Guelph Union to win over North Mississauga

GUELPH – Victoria Hinchliffe’s goal half an hour into the contest ended up being the game’s only goal as Guelph Union slipped by North Mississauga SC 1-0 in League1 Ontario Women’s Premier soccer play Wednesday at the Centennial Bowl.

The goal was Hinchliffe’s team-leading eighth of the season.

Libby Brenneman registered the shutout, her third of the season.

Union is 12th in the 19-team league at 6-8-2 while North Mississauga is ninth at 6-4-5, three points ahead of the locals.

Union have two games left on their schedule as they’re to host 18th-place Burlington SC (3-10-1) Sunday at 5 p.m. at the Centennial Bowl and wrap up the season with a game against fourth-place Alliance United FC (9-2-5) July 22 at Varsity Stadium in Toronto. Game time is 6 p.m.
