Eight-goal outburst powers Thistles to win over Brantford

BRANTFORD – The Fergus Thistles struck for eight consecutive goals in the second period on their way to another victory over the Brantford Warriors in Ontario Junior C Lacrosse League play Friday at the Wayne Gretzky Centre.

The scoring spree allowed the Thistles to turn a one-goal deficit into a seven-goal lead on their way to an 11-7 win.

However, the Thistles never scored after the eight-goal outburst. The teams were tied 3-3 at the end of the first period and Fergus led 11-4 after the second.

The win was the third for the Thistles in three games with Brantford this season.

Aiden McDougall had four goals and six assists for Fergus while Tye Sanderson had three goals and five assists. Evan McDougall added three goals and two assists while Logan Joyes had a goal and an assist. Rory Peters had two assists while Liam Peters, Jarrett Lavigne and Eddie McDonald had one each.

Gavin Boree had a hat trick for Brantford while Mitchell Page tallied twice and Justin Brennecke and Braedon Mair added single goals. Krystof Adamiec assisted on four of the goals while Brennecke had two assists and Kahner Sowden, Page and Boree each had one.

The Thistles outshot Brantford 40-26 thanks to a 24-9 advantage in the second period. Fergus had four power-play goals and a shorthanded marker while Brantford had three power-play goals.

Ethan Bratton had 19 saves for the Thistles and Jonas Zonneveld had 29 for the Warriors.

The result leaves Fergus at 5-9-0 and Brantford at 4-9-1.
