Elora Mohawks eliminated with loss to St. Catharines

FERGUS – The Elora Mohawks saw their Ontario Junior B Lacrosse League season come to an end Tuesday night at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex when they were downed 9-4 by the St. Catharines Athletics.

The win gave St. Catharines a three-game sweep of the best-of-five Western Conference semifinal and sends them to a conference final meeting with either the Six Nations Rebels or the Guelph Regals. That series is tied 1-1 with Game 3 Friday night at Hagersville.

The Mohawks scored the first two goals of the game, but trailed 3-2 at the end of the first period and 7-3 after the second.

Owen Moore had two goals for the Mohawks while Owen Tovell and Brinley Wilson scored once each. Assists went to Riley Woods, Phillip Papaevangelou, Troy Hall, Jabe Verbeek and Keegan Detweiler.

Jack Parker, Colton Armitage and Ian Kohut tallied twice apiece for St. Catharines while Jaden Patterson, Avery Steinbach-Parker and Drew Kenney also scored. Treent Mooradian assisted on four of the goals while Armitage had three assists and Parker, Patterson, Levi Roest, Steinbach-Parker, Kohut and Kenney had one apiece.

Elora outshot the Athletics 54-42 and neither team managed a power-play goal. The Mohawks had three power plays and St. Catharines had one. The Athletics did score a shorthanded goal.

Carter Browne took the loss in net for Elora. He had 27 saves in 50:37 while Sam Forbes had six saves in 7:49. Jarred JoeJoe Brant had 50 saves for St. Catharines.
