Elora Mohawks nipped in overtime by Hamilton Bengals

The Hamilton Bengals scored a pair of goals in overtime as they edged the Elora Mohawks 10-9 in Ontario Junior B Lacrosse League play Sunday at the Jefferson Elora Community Centre.

The game was the third home game in four days for the Mohawks who scored once in the 10-minute overtime period.

The Mohawks led 4-2 at the end of the first period before Hamilton squared the score at 6-6 by the end of the second. The teams scored twice apiece in the third, the hosts getting two goals in the final four and a half minutes including the tying goal with 10 seconds to play.

Owen Moore, Keegan Detweiler and Brinley Wilson each had two goals for the Mohawks while single goals were netted by Evan McDougall, Carter Coffey and Nate Renaud. Getting two assists apiece were Cole Hunsberger, Moore, Wilson and Connor Willmets while McDougall, Renaud and Detweiler each had one.

Curtis Ward fired in four goals for Hamilton while Justin Hill, Reed Allen and Cody Inness had two apiece.

The Mohawks outshot the Bengals 53-41.

Sam Forbes had 31 saves for Elora while Mateo Beaudin had 44 for Hamilton.

The Mohawks scored the game’s lone power-play goal.
