Elora Mohawks quickly leave Hamilton Bengals behind

The Elora Mohawks struck for seven goals in the first period as they doubled the Hamilton Bengals 12-6 in Ontario Junior B Lacrosse League play Thursday at Hamilton’s Dave Andreychuk Mountain Arena.

Those seven goals were every goal scored in the opening period while the Mohawks led 11-3 at the end of the second.

Brinley Wilson led the Mohawks with four goals while Owen Moore had three and Cole Hunsberger added two. JJ Lavigne, Ryan McDougall and Keegan Detweiler scored once each while Detweiler had four assists and Nate Renaud had three. Getting two assists apiece were Hunsberger, Moore, Wilson, Connor Willmets and Landon Krysko while Owen Tovell, Lavigne and Terrance Barrina had one each.

Brendan Keogh, Blake Booth, Curtis Ward, Walker Zabransky, Matt Pecyna and Matt King scored the goals for Hamilton.

The Mohawks outshot the Bengals 49-32 and had the only two power-play goals of the game.

Sam Forbes had 26 saves for Elora.
