Elora Mohawks turn on power to drop London

The Elora Mohawks struck for nine power-play goals as they dropped the London Blue Devils 16-6 in Ontario Junior B Lacrosse League play Thursday at London’s Nichols Recreation Centre.

The Mohawks struck for eight goals in the opening period including four power-play goals in a row in a run of seven consecutive goals.

Elora led 8-2 at the end of the first period and 13-3 after the second.

Cole Hunsberger collected four goals and three assists for the Mohawks while Brinley Wilson had three goals and four assists and JJ Lavigne had two goals and five assists. Owen Moore and Keegan Detweiler also scored two goals apiece while single goals were netted by Evan McDougall, Terrance Barrina and Curtis Dietrich. Tobias Wilson had seven assists while Evan McDougall and Detweiler had two each and Connor Willmets had one.

Brendan Campbell had a hat trick for London while Nate Doxtator added two goals and Zach Vanderwal scored the other one. Kahelot Powless gathered three assists while Kaleb Fulkerson and Daxtyn Brown had two apiece and Campbell, Noah Candy, Doxtator and Carson Langille each had one.

The Mohawks outshot the Blue Devils 82-45 and had nine power-play goals in the game while London had one power-play goal and one shorthanded tally. Elora was called for 10 minutes in penalties while London was whistled for 26 including a pair of high-sticking majors.

Sam Forbes had 39 saves for the Mohawks while Blaine Powless had 53 in two stints in net for London. He started and finished while Harrison Kerr had 13 saves in a stint from 13:54 of the first until 7:43 of the second.
