Elora Rocks come back in third to drop Killer Bees

FERGUS – The Elora Rocks erupted for five goals in the third period to claim a 6-4 victory over the Alvinston Killer Bees in Western Ontario Super Hockey League play Friday night at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex.

After a scoreless first period, the Killer Bees shot ahead in the second period with a pair of goals in 51 seconds, the first one being a shorthanded marker.

Alvinston extended its lead to 3-1 early in the third before the Rocks scored four in a row to shoot ahead for good.

Scoring a goal apiece for the Rocks were Spencer MacCormack, Chad Herron, Kyle Salmon, Spencer Gourlay, Brendan Woods and Steven Dol. Anthony Filoso and Matteo Condotta each had two assists while single assists went to MacCormack, Brock Hoelscher, Dol, Luke Hoelscher and Nicholas Boehmer.

Caden Faulkner, Franco Sproverio, Ethan Lamoureux and Ethan Nother scored the goals for Alvinston while Carson Perry, Josh Tidgwell, Sproverio, Bayly Fryfogle and Josh Jamieson each had an assist.

Alvinston outshot the Rocks 43-36 and had a shorthanded goal. Elora went 1-for-3 on its power play while the Killer Bees were scoreless on five power plays.

Colin Dunne had 39 saves for the Rocks while Quinton Duncan had 30 for Alvinston.

The win lifts Elora to 2-2-0-0 while Alvinston falls to 1-2-0-0.

The Rocks are to play the Woodstock Lakers (0-4-0-0) Saturday at 7:45 p.m. at Woodstock’s Southwood Arena.
