Elora Rocks slip by Dunnville on Uttley’s overtime goal

FERGUS – Alex Uttley’s goal in overtime handed the Elora Rocks a 4-3 victory over the Dunnville Aeros in Western Ontario Super Hockey League play Friday night at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex.

The win was the fourth in a row for the Rocks.

Both teams had recorded comebacks in the game to get it into overtime.

Dunnville had the lone goal of the first period to take the early lead before the Rocks rallied with three consecutive goals to shoot ahead. However, the Aeros scored late in the second and early in the third to force the extra time.

Uttley finished with a pair of goals for the Rocks, his first two goals of the season. Matteo Condotta also netted his first of the season for the Rocks while Chad Herron scored his fifth. Nick Tetley collected a pair of assists while Zack Cameron, Uttley, Brendan Woods, Kyle Salmon and Herron had one apiece.

Curtis Longland, Landon Minor and Brad Parish scored for Dunnville. Minor assisted on the two goals he didn’t score while Dayne Phillips, Matt Ruigrok, Longland and Mike Werner each had one assist.

The Rocks went 1-for-3 on their power play while the Aeros went 1-for-8.

Shots on net were not reported.

Colin Dunne was in net for the Rocks while Jesse Schoeman was in goal for Dunnville.

The win lifts the Rocks into a tie for third with the Tillsonburg Thunder. The Rocks are at 5-2-0-0 while Tillsonburg is at 5-1-0-0. Petrolia Squires lead at 6-2-0-0 while the Strathroy Jets are at 6-4-0-0. The top four are followed by the Tilbury Bluebirds (4-2-0-0), Alvinston Killer Bees (4-3-0-0), Delhi Flames (3-3-0-0), Stratford Fighting Irish (2-3-0-0), Dunnville (1-4-0-2), Woodstock Lakers (1-5-0-0) and Orangeville Blitz (1-7-0-0).

The game was the first of a three-game homestand for the Rocks. They’re to host Stratford next Friday at 8:30 p.m. at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex and they’re to host Tilbury there Nov. 24 at 8:30 p.m.
