Elora Rocks triple Orangeville to get in play-in final

ELORA – The Elora Rocks advanced to the Western Ontario Super Hockey League’s playoff play-in final with a 6-2 victory over the Orangeville Blitz Friday at the Jefferson Elora Community Centre.

The Rocks led 3-1 at the end of the first period and 5-2 after the second.

Spencer MacCormack, Shaun Pickering, Steven Dol, Blaize Bridges, Alex Uttley and Zack Cameron each had a goal for Elora while Charlie Stephens had three assists and Uttley had two. Single assists were awarded to Nick Tetley, Cameron, Bridges, Dol and Luke Hoelscher.

Daryl Thomson and Nicholas Hodgson scored for Orangeville with help from Daniel Perry, Ben Thomson and Aaron Thow.

The Rocks outshot the Blitz 42-31 and Elora had the lone power-play goal of the game.

Colin Dunne had 29 saves for Elora and Ryan Mantle had 36 for the Blitz.

Elora had finished the regular season in eighth place at 10-12-2 (W-L-OTL) while Orangeville was 11th at 3-21-0.

The Rocks are to host the winner of Saturday’s play-in semifinal between the Dunnville Aeros and Delhi Flames in the play-in final. Winner of that game advances to a best-of-five quarter-final with the defending champion Stratford Fighting Irish.
