Elora Rocks yield four in third, blanked by Tilbury

TILBURY – The Elora Rocks surrendered four goals in the third period as the Tilbury Bluebirds pulled away to a 6-0 victory in Western Ontario Super Hockey League play Saturday at the Tilbury Memorial Arena.

Tilbury had scored once in the first period and added another goal in the second.

Sammy Banga led Tilbury with a pair of goals while singletons were netted by Nick Tetreault, Andrew McCombe, Austin Jennings and Dylan Denomme. Travis Winkworth assisted on two of the goals while Owen Holmes, Zack Bedard, Banga, Cole Butler, Mitchell Van Teeling, Ryan Crevatin, McCombe and Jennings each had one assist.

The Bluebirds outshot the Rocks 49-28 and both teams were scoreless on seven power plays.

Colin Dunne had 43 saves for Elora and Ryan Polidori had 28 for Tilbury.

Tillsonburg Thunder lead the league at 14-2-1 (W-L-OTL) and are followed by the Petrolia Squires at 13-7-0, Tilbury at 12-6-1, Stratford Fighting Irish at 11-5-2, Strathroy Jets at 11-8-2, Alvinston Killer Bees at 10-8-1, Woodstock Lakers at 10-8-0, the Rocks at 8-9-2, Delhi Flames at 8-9-1, Dunnville Aeros at 6-12-3 and Orangeville Blitz at 2-18-0.

Elora has lost six of its last seven games and have five games left on its regular-season schedule.

The Rocks are to return to the Elora Community Centre Friday for the first time this season as they’re to host Petrolia there at 8:30 p.m. Their previous home games have been held at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex in Fergus while renovations were done to the Elora arena.
