Emmanuel Christian captures senior girls’ hoops title

ORANGEVILLE – Emmanuel Christian Eagles claimed their second District 4 high school girls’ basketball championship title in as many days when they took the senior title Wednesday.

The Eagles downed the Westside Thunder 38-29 in the championship game at Westside for their first ever D4 senior girls’ basketball title.

Tiffany Bouwers and Henrietta Thalen connected for 12 points apiece for Emmanuel Christian.

Dowdall had 13 points for Westside while Burnside netted eight.

The Thunder had finished first at the completion of the regular season with a 9-1 record while the Eagles were second at 8-2 and Westside had won both regular-season meetings between the teams — 31-25 in Orangeville Sept. 25 and 45-42 in Fergus Oct. 16.

Both teams advance to CWOSSA championship tournaments next week as Emmanuel Christian will be in the A tournament at Woodland Christian School in Breslau Friday and Westside will be in the AA tournament at Galt CI in Cambridge Friday and Saturday.
