Erin Outlaws downed by Lucknow Lancers

LUCKNOW – The Erin Outlaws yielded three consecutive goals as they were handed a 4-1 setback by the Lucknow Lancers in Ontario Elite Hockey League play Sunday at the Lucknow and District Sports Complex.

The three goals broke a 1-1 tie and gave the Lancers their second win of the season.

After a scoreless first period, the teams scored 20 seconds apart in the first two minutes of the second. The Lancers shot ahead for good with just under seven minutes to go in the middle frame.

Lucknow’s other two goals, both scored by Trent Michie, came in the final seven minutes of the game.

Brad Holman had the lone goal for Erin while Cameron Kokelj and Luke Miehm assisted on the goal.

Mitch Kuik and Greg Scott scored the first two goals for Lucknow while Kuik also had a pair of assists. Chase Chapman, Caden Beattie, Jason Taylor and Bob Raymond each had one assist.

The Outlaws outshot Lucknow 29-16 and neither team scored on their power plays. Erin had five power plays and Lucknow had two.

Jacob Tugnutt had 12 saves in the Erin net while Liam McCarthy had 28 for Lucknow.

The result left the Outlaws ninth in the 11-team league at 3-6-0-1 and Lucknow 10th at 2-7-0-1.

The Outlaws are to play the league-leading Ripley Wolves (8-1-0-3) Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Ripley Huron Community Centre.
