Falcons move on to D10 junior boys’ volleyball final

GUELPH – The Centre Wellington Falcons grabbed the other berth in Monday’s District 10 high school junior boys’ volleyball final when they swept the host Centennial Spartans Thursday.

The game was postponed a day due to Wednesday’s freezing rain.

The Falcons won 3-0 with wins in three close sets as they prevailed 25-23, 25-21, 25-22.

Centre Wellington advances to play the Ross Royals in the league’s championship match Monday at 6 p.m. at the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre.

The Royals swept the Lourdes Crusaders 3-0 at Ross in the other semifinal Wednesday.

Ross and Centennial finished the regular season with identical 12-2 records while Centre Wellington was third at 10-4 and Lourdes fourth at 8-6.

The Royals and Falcons split their regular-season matches, both winning on the other team’s home court. Centre Wellington won 3-1 at Ross on Sept. 19, the first day of league play, while the Royals swept the Falcons 3-0 Oct. 12 at Fergus.

Monday’s winner gets the D10 berth in next Thursday’s CWOSSA AAA tournament in Waterloo and Kitchener while Lourdes is to be the district’s representative in the CWOSSA AA tournament next Friday at John Diefenbaker Senior School in Hanover.

Monday’s D10 junior final at the University of Guelph is to be followed at 8 p.m. by the senior final between the Ross Royals and Lourdes Crusaders. Both won semifinal matches Wednesday and both also advance to CWOSSA tournaments next Thursday.
