Fergus Thistles connect to leave Halton Hills behind

The Fergus Thistles got back to their winning ways as they downed the Halton Hills Bulldogs 14-4 in Ontario Junior C Lacrosse League play Thursday at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex.

The win was the first for the Thistles following four consecutive losses in close games, all by two goals or less.

The Thistles gained control of Thursday’s game with a six-goal run that started in the final minute of the opening period. Fergus scored with 40 seconds to go in the first to create a 2-2 tie, then added five in a row on the way to a 9-3 lead by the end of the second.

Nate Long, Logan Joyes, Brock Reinhart and Jared Bettonvil tallied twice each for the Thistles while single goals were added by Curtis Dietrich, Aiden McDougall, Kody Brown, Brodie Rice, Cooper Fleet and Jack Webley. Bettonvil had three assists while McDougall, Reinhart, Rice, Fleet, Griffin Mackie and Webley had two apiece. Single assists went to Dietrich and Owen Hahn.

Noah Savery, Jacob Coleman, Marcus Maguire and Cole Fagan scored once each for Halton Hills.

Fergus outshot Halton Hills 63-38 and had a power-play goal and three shorthanded markers. Halton Hills had a power-play goal.

Ethan Bratton had 34 saves for Fergus while Nathan George had 10 and Evan Snyder had 39 for the Bulldogs.
