Fergus Thistles drop Six Nations to avenge earlier setback

FERGUS – The Fergus Thistles avenged a loss to the Six Nations Stealth five days earlier in Ontario Junior C Lacrosse League play by handing the Stealth a 12-9 setback Friday at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex.

The Thistles held Six Nations to two goals in the first and third periods combined while scoring six of their own in those periods.

Fergus led 4-1 at the end of the first period and 10-8 after the second.

Evan McDougall had five goals and three assists for the Thistles while Carter Coffey had a hat trick. Aiden McDougall had a goal and five assists while Tye Sanderson had a goal and three assists and Brodie Rice and Rory Peters each scored a goal. Cooper Flett assisted on two of the goals and Blake Harrison also had an assist.

Reef Beal had a hat trick for Six Nations while Tylan Hill, Dalen Burning, Lleyton Sowden, Dayton Sawyer, Brian Laforme and Kevin Henhawk also scored. Dayton Martin and Sowden had two assists apiece while single assists went to Jack Henhawk, Burning, Teegan Henry and Sawyer.

The Thistles outshot the Stealth 45-42.

Both goaltenders, Ethan Bratton of Fergus and Hagwas Hill of Six Nations, had 33 saves.

The Thistles had three power-play goals and a shorthanded marker while Six Nations had four power-play goals and a shorthanded goal.

The result leaves the Thistles at 4-7-0 and the Stealth at 8-3-0.
