Fergus Thistles nipped by Wilmot Wild

The Fergus Thistles yielded a pair of goals in the third period as they were edged 4-3 by the Wilmot Wild in Ontario Junior C Lacrosse League play Sunday at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex.

All seven goals in the game were scored at the same end of the arena as Wilmot scored twice in the first period, Fergus netted three in the second and Wilmot won it with two in the third.

Tye Sanderson had a goal and two assists for the Thistles while Aiden McDougall had a goal and an assist and Spencer Aitchison added the other goal.

Chase Forsythe had two goals for Wilmot while Armaa Boparai and James Oberle netted single goals. Single assists went to Ian George, Evan Gray and Cole Main.

The Wild outshot the Thistles 39-37 and had two power-play goals while Fergus had one power-play goal.

Ethan Bratton had 35 saves for the Thistles while Cooper Schell had 34 for Wilmot.

The game was the season opener for Wilmot while it was the second loss in as many outings for the Thistles.

The Thistles are to host the Six Nations Stealth (0-2-0) Thursday at 8 p.m. at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex.
