Fergus Thistles tripled by Burlington Warriors

The Fergus Thistles surrendered six consecutive goals to the Burlington Warriors in a 12-4 setback Saturday afternoon at Burlington’s Appleby Ice Centre.

The scoring streak extended a 5-2 lead for the Warriors with 30 seconds to go in the second period to an 11-2 advantage 10 and a half minutes into the third period.

Burlington never trailed in the match as the Warriors led 4-1 at the end of the first period and 6-2 at the end of the second.

Griffin Mackie had two goals for the Thistles while Damien Ramirez and Hudson Cox added single goals. Ramirez collected two assists while single helpers went to Rory Peters, Owen Hahn, Lucas Rathwell, Cameron Pelkie and Cohen Merli.

Wyatt Turner struck for three goals and six assists for Burlington while Blake Padar had three goals and three assists. Zach Reidy, Milo Bedckman and Carter Shaw each scored twice while Beckman also had three assists. Rory Boyle and Jake Peshko each had two assists while Kai Taylor, Keegan Jackson and Shaw had one apiece.

Shots on net were not reported.

Carter Billings was in goal for the Thistles while Burlington had Ethan Bishop in net.

The loss came a week after the Thistles had doubled the Huntsville Hawks 10-5 at Huntsville’s Canadian Summit Centre.

The Thistles are to complete their stretch of four consecutive road games Sunday with a match against the Peterborough Lakers at Peterborough’s Healthy Planet Arena.

The Thistles are to host the Six Nations Stealth Friday at 8 p.m. at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex in their first of three consecutive home games and their first in Fergus this season. The success of the Ontario junior C hockey champion Fergus Whalers had forced the Thistles to shift their early-season home games to the Jefferson Elora Community Centre.
