Fergus Whalers doubled by Mitchell Hawks

MITCHELL – The Fergus Whalers surrendered three goals in the second period as they were doubled 4-2 by the Mitchell Hawks in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Saturday night at the Mitchell arena.

The teams were tied 1-1 at the end of the first period while all the scoring in the game was completed by the end of the second period.

Boden Brimmell and Ty Anselmini scored the goals for Fergus while Graham Sutcliffe, Ryan McDougall, Nolan Burnside and Anselmini each had one assist.

Single goals for Mitchell were scored by Callan Ferguson, Ben Tenhag, Carter Musselman and Andrew Gysbers while Brady Brezynskie had three assis and Isaac Nickel, Tenhag and Jackson Andrews each had one.

Mitchell outshot the Whalers 36-27, but were scoreless on eight power plays while Fergus went 1-for-10.

Bradley Boville had 32 saves for the Whalers and Joshua Jacklin had 25 for Mitchell.

The result leaves the Whalers at 2-5-2-2 and Mitchell at 3-6-2-0.

Fergus is to host the Kincardine Bulldogs (7-2-1-1) Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex.
