Fergus Whalers dumped by division-leading Hanover

HANOVER – The Pollock Division-leading Hanover Barons struck for the final six goals of the game as they clouted the Fergus Whalers 10-2 in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Friday at Hanover’s P and H Centre.

Hanover led 4-0 at the end of the first period and responded with six consecutive goals after the Whalers had closed the gap to a pair of goals with two goals in the first seven minutes of the second period. The Barons led 8-2 at the end of the second.

Jared Bettonvil and Jacob Lesser had a goal apiece for Fergus while Tyler Ewald assisted on both goals. Jett Morningstar and Bettonvil each had one assist.

Alex McGillivray and Curtis Arnold struck for two goals apiece for Hanover while Eliott McCarey, Aaron Dukeshire, Ryan Goetz, Austin Farlow, Patrick Brown and Drayton Howell added single goals. Ryan Colquhoun and Jacob Duggan each assisted on four goals while McGillivray had three assists and Farlow and Brown each had two. Single assists went to Wyatt Cayley, Spencer Davidson, Payton McIsaac, Dukeshire and Goetz.

The Barons outshot the Whalers 41-19 and went 2-for-3 on their power play while Fergus was scoreless on two power plays.

Jacob McKenney had 31 saves for Fergus while Lander Hartley made 17 for Hanover.

The result leaves Hanover at 32-4-0-2 (W-L-OTL-T) and Fergus at 15-16-3-2.

The Whalers are to play the Goderich Flyers (3-31-1-2) at the Goderich Maitland Recreation Centre Saturday at 8 p.m.
