Fergus Whalers lose to Bulldogs, winless in October

FERGUS – The expansion Fergus Whalers yielded at least one goal in every period as they suffered a 5-1 loss to the Kincardine Bulldogs in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Sunday at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex.

The loss leaves the Whalers continuing to look for their first victory of October.

Kincardine led 2-1 at the end of the first period and 4-1 after the second.

Boden Brimmell scored the goal for Fergus with 13 seconds to go in the first period. JJ Lavigne and Ty Anselmini drew assists on the goal.

Carter Servais scored twice for Kincardine while single goals were netted by Gavin Downs, Nolan MacKinnon and Chad Lawrence. Liam Colhoun assisted on two of the goals while single assists were awarded to Servais, Wilson Shipp, Kieran Moore, Kyle Dolmage, Lawrence and Downs.

Kincardine outshot the Whalers 39-26 and went 1-for-9 on its power play while Fergus was scoreless on six power plays.

Jacob McKenney had 34 saves for the Whalers while Rowen Cherrett had 25 for the Bulldogs.

Hanover Barons lead the Pollock Division at 9-0-0-1 and they’re followed by Kincardine (8-2-1-1), Walkerton Capitals (7-4-1-0), Mount Forest Patriots (6-4-1-0), Wingham Ironmen (6-5-1-0), Mitchell Hawks (4-6-2-0), the Whalers (2-6-2-2) and Goderich Flyers (2-9-0-0).

The Whalers, who won their first two games of the season, are to play the Walkerton Capitals at the Walkerton Community Centre Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
