Fifth consecutive win for Gryphon field hockey women

GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons recorded their fifth consecutive victory as they downed the McMaster Marauders 3-1 in OUA women’s field hockey play Friday night at the Gryphon Soccer Complex.

The Gryphs opened the scoring with the lone goal in the second quarter while the game’s other three goals were all scored in the fourth quarter.

Elly Peters was involved in all three goals for the Gryphs as she scored one of them and assisted on the other two. Eva Cuddihy and Madison Martin netted a goal apiece while Delaney Jacklin also had an assist.

Darcie Brohman had the goal for McMaster.

The Gryphs outshot McMaster 10-1 and also had 13 penalty corners to three for the Marauders.

The win keeps the Gryphs in second place in the West Division. At 5-2-1, the Gryphs are a point behind the division-leading Waterloo Warriors (6-2-0). McMaster and Western Mustangs are tied for third at 2-6-0.

The Gryphs are to complete their regular season next week with a pair of games against Waterloo. They’re to play next Friday at the soccer complex at 7 p.m. and next Sunday at 10 a.m. at Waterloo’s Warrior Field.
