Five-goal second period powers Hespeler Shamrocks to win

PARIS – The Hespeler Shamrocks struck for five goals in the second period as they downed the Paris Titans 7-1 in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Saturday at the Brant Sports Complex.

The Shamrocks scored the lone goal of the first period and led 6-0 after the second.

David Hanley lost his bid for a shutout when Paris scored a power-play goal with 4:32 to go in the game. Hanley had 34 saves in the game as he lifted his record to a perfect 4-0-0-0.

Liam Nelson scored twice for Hespeler while Kyle Church, Boden White, James Ramani, Andrew Harris and Mathew Styka added single goals. Justin George, Mitchell Smilsky and Braeden Tyler each had two assists while Styka, Nelson, White, Jack Restauri, Ramani, Gavin Logher and Will Reel had one apiece.

Aidan Leblanc scored the goal for Paris, set up by James Patterson.

Josh Roman had 26 saves for Paris.

Hespeler went 1-for-3 on its power play while Paris went 1-for-8.

Woodstock Navy Vets lead the Doherty Division at 13-1-1-0 and are followed by the New Hamburg Firebirds (11-3-1-0), Tavistock Braves (7-5-0-1), the Shamrocks (6-7-0-0), Norwich Merchants (5-8-1-1), Wellesley Applejacks (4-8-0-0) and Paris (2-12-1-0).

The Shamrocks are to host Wellesley Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at the Hespeler Memorial Arena.
