Four teams in first-place deadlock in high school baseball

GUELPH – The Bishop Macdonell Celtics rallied to nip the Ross Royals 7-6 in District 10 high school baseball play Monday at Pearson Park.

After scoring a single run in the first inning, Bishop Mac fell behind when Ross connected for four runs on a grand slam in the second inning.

Both teams scored a run in the third before the Celtics pulled even with three runs in the bottom of the fourth. However, the Royals went ahead with a single run in the top of the fifth, but Bishop Mac got the win with two runs in the bottom of the inning.

The game was called after the fifth due to the two-hour time limit.

The second game of the league’s doubleheader saw the Centennial Spartans hand the St. James Lions a 5-2 setback.

The Spartans did most of their damage in the third inning when they scored four runs.

The results leave a four-way tie for first involving the four teams that played Monday.

Bishop Mac, Centennial, Ross and St. James are each at 2-1-0 while the Guelph CVI Green Gaels and Lourdes Crusaders are both at 0-2-0 and are to play today (Sept. 26) at 4 p.m. at Pearson Park.
