Four teams unbeaten after Day 1 of girls’ soccer season

Half of the teams in District 10 high school girls’ soccer emerged from opening-day play undefeated.

All eight teams in the league gathered at the Gryphons Soccer Complex Wednesday and each team played twice.

Bishop Macdonell Celtics and Centennial Spartans recorded two wins apiece while the St. James Lions and two-time defending champion Ross Royals each had a win and a tie. Orangeville Bears and Guelph CVI Green Gaels had a loss and a tie while the Centre Wellington Falcons and Lourdes Crusaders each lost both of their matches.

 

Bishop Macdonell 13 Lourdes 0

Kaya Jacobs struck for four goals for Bishop Mac while Harlow Ho had a hat trick and Cailyn Scott added a pair of goals. Single goals were scored by Victoria Gamboa, Alexia Suttr, Emmalise E. and Isabella Peverly.

 

St. James 1 Orangeville 1

Raquel Cuzen had the goal for St. James.

Mackenzie Mills tallied for Orangeville.

 

Ross 2 Centre Wellington 0

Brook Hoyer scored both goals for Ross and Amber Spira recorded the shutout.

 

Centennial 3 Guelph CVI 0

Sam Caputo had two goals for Centennial and Leah Panariti scored the other goal.

 

Bishop Macdonell 3 Orangeville 2

Atiyeh struck for two goals for Bishop Mac and Fraser had the other goal.

Gowing and Hazel scored for Orangeville.

 

St. James 10 Lourdes 0

Scoring for St. James were Raquel Cuzen with four goals, Hannah Farrell and Cristina Arsenio with two goals each and Elizabeth Brady and Hailey Farrell with one goal apiece. Mattea Baccin kept the clean sheet.

 

Ross 1 Guelph CVI 1

Ava H. scored for Ross and Anna O-S had the goal for GCVI.

 

Centennial 3 Centre Wellington 2
