Gaels, Bears tied for second after GCVI’s victory

ORANGEVILLE – The Guelph CVI Green Gaels moved into a tie for second place in the District 10 high school senior girls’ basketball league with the Orangeville Bears by handing the Bears a 53-45 setback Tuesday.

The result leaves the two teams tied with 7-2 records, trailing only the undefeated Centennial Spartans (9-0).

However, if the Bears and Gaels finish in a tie at the end of the regular season, Orangeville will win the tiebreaker due to a win by a 19-point margin, 58-39, at GCVI Sept. 26.

Phoebe James scored 24 points for the Gaels Tuesday.

 

Lourdes 33 St. James 16

The Crusaders collected their third win of the season. Luliana Ghebretersae had 11 points while Ciara Hayne and McKenna Codrington added seven apiece.

Sam G. had nine points for St. James while Halli K. Added four.

 

Centennial 53 Centre Wellington 33

Nica Borghese led Centennial with 17 points.

That point total was matched by Centre Wellington’s Natalie Abra.

 

Bishop Macdonell 53 Ross 47

Sydney Richardson struck for a game-high 23 points for Bishop Mac while Talya Kridli netted 13.

Abby Blashuk had 13 for Ross while S. Tesfit (Sam or Sikar) followed with 11.

 

Junior Girls’ Basketball

Guelph CVI 35 Orangeville 27

Gennidy had 14 points for GCVI while Rankin had eight.

Larocque hit for 11 for Orangeville while Walker collected seven.

 

Lourdes 49 St. James 47

Jwokmeer Omot connected for 32 points for Lourdes.

S. Cummings had 26 for St. James while G. Jones chipped in with 12.

 

Centennial 33 Centre Wellington 28

Camryn Stam had 16 points for Centennial.

Maggie Long had 10 for Centre Wellington.

 

Bishop Macdonell 44 Ross 39

Adiah Zacharias had 11 points for Bishop Mac and Sophia Anstett contributed nine.

Alex Blashuk netted 11 for Ross.
