Gaels, Crusaders unbeaten in senior boys’ basketball

GUELPH – The Guelph CVI Green Gaels grabbed the lead in the first quarter and never let it go as they downed the St. James Lions 76-55 in District 10 high school senior boys’ basketball play Thursday at St. James.

The Gaels finished the first week of regular-season play with two wins as did the Lourdes Crusaders.

The Gaels defeated the Ross Royals 59-51 Tuesday while Lourdes downed the Orangeville Bears 52-39 Thursday and the Centre Wellington Falcons 72-32 Tuesday.

For GCVI Thursday, the Gaels led St. James 27-18 at the end of the first quarter, 42-32 at halftime and 58-44 after the third quarter.

Marius Caione led GC with 15 points while Dedan Mwangi and Dennis Magnaye had 12 points apiece, Magnaye getting all 12 of his points in the first half. Kees Howell added seven.

Daidan Carter had a game-high 25 points for St. James with 12 coming in the first quarter. Kehinde Oguntala netted 10 and Gianfranz dela Fuente had five.

 

Lourdes 52 Orangeville 39

Simon Porcellato connected for 17 points for Lourdes Thursday while Josh Skelhorn had 14 and Dom Favaro contributed 13.

Jisiah Guthrie and Cameron Woods each had 10 for Orangeville while Jacob Lewis chipped in with eight.

 

Bishop Macdonell 61 Centre Wellington 26

Thursday, Ben Dorling drained 19 points for Bishop Mac while Hayden Schut and Ike Erinaugha each had eight.

Tyler Holland had eight for Centre Wellington and Max Aitken added five.

Tuesday, Karan Hira collected 21 points for Centennial while Nima Ashkar had 16.

Daidan Carter had 14 for St. James and Gianfranz dela Fuente followed with 12.

 

Guelph CVI 59 Ross 51

Tuesday, Malcom Mwangi had 15 for GCVI and was followed by Shaun Singh with 11 and Dennis Magnaye with 10.

Bailey Kennedy had 22 for Ross and Jonathan Wang gathered six.

 

Lourdes 72 Centre Wellington 32

Tuesday, Simon Porcellato hit for 24 points for Lourdes and Dom Favaro added 21.

G. Giles had 10 for Centre Wellington and Tyler Holland picked up eight.

 

Orangeville 51 Bishop Macdonell 49

Tuesday, Orangeville was led by Cameron Woods with 18 points while Jisiah Guthrie added 15 and Brayden B. had 13.

Jackson Long had 13 for Bishop Mac while Ben Dorling netted nine and Joey Guanzon had eight.

Jason W. led Centre Wellington with 23 points and Lucas A. followed with 12.

Franco Espinosa gathered 12 for Bishop Mac while Chayse Smith had 10 and Kai Fan added nine.

 

St. James 96 Guelph CVI 22

Peyton Cummings hit for 12 points for St. James while others in double digits in scoring were Hayden Khan with 11 and Nick Melehes and Josiah CaDougan with 10 apiece.

Nitheesh W. and Selim A. each had four for GCVI.

Nash Dunlop connected for 23 points for Ross while Ewen Williams had 11.

Annan Bardoun had 13 for Centennial and Jake Brummer had nine.

Eisay had 27 points for Lourdes.

Sheehan had 12 for Orangeville.

Tuesday, Nick Mackie-Bernier netted 15 points for Orangeville while Jaylen Padayachee had 12.
