GCVI Gaels remain unbeaten in senior volleyball

GUELPH – The Guelph CVI Green Gaels are a match victory away from a perfect District 10 high school senior girls’ volleyball season following a 3-0 sweep of the Orangeville Bears Tuesday at GCVI.

The Gaels won 25-22, 25-14, 25-18.

GCVI has already clinched first place in the league standings and are to host the eighth-place Lourdes Crusaders in next Monday’s quarter-finals.

The top four teams in the league all swept home matches Tuesday as the Centennial Spartans, St. James Lions and Ross Royals all posted 3-0 victories.

GCVI leads the league at 13-0 while Centennial is second at 10-3. They’re followed by St. James at 8-4, Ross at 7-5, Bishop Macdonell Celtics at 6-7, Centre Wellington Falcons and Orangeville both at 3-9 and Lourdes at 0-13.

The league has two matches Wednesday and four Thursday to complete the regular season.

Semifinals are to go next Wednesday (Feb. 14) and the league’s junior-senior championship doubleheader at the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre Feb. 20 starting with the junior final at 6 p.m. The senior is to start around 8 p.m.

Junior Girls’ Volleyball

Bishop Mac clinched first with a win over Ross Tuesday.

The Celtics lead the league at 12-1 and are followed by Centennial at 10-3, Ross at 8-4, Centre Wellington at 7-5, Orangeville at 5-7, St. James at 4-8, Guelph CVI at 4-9 and Lourdes at 0-13.
