Goals late in periods lead to win for Mount Forest Patriots

KINCARDINE – The Mount Forest Patriots scored in the final minutes of the second and third periods to edge the Kincardine Bulldogs 2-1 in Provincial Junior Hockey League playoff action Friday at Kincardine’s Davidson Centre.

The win gives Mount Forest a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven Pollock Division semifinal.

After a scoreless first period, Gavin Downs opened the scoring for Kincardine at 4:58 of the second. Gavin Gibbons and Kyle Dolmage set up the goal.

Brody Leblanc pulled Mount Forest even with a power-play goal with 54 seconds to go in the second. Assists went to Jaxon Gawel and Will Lewis.

Charlie Mckenzie struck for the winner for the Patriots with 40 seconds to go in the third. Gawel picked up an assist.

Mount Forest outshot Kincardine 38-33 and went 1-for-6 on its power play while the Bulldogs were scoreless on four power plays.

Marshall Nicholls had 32 saves for the Patriots while Carter Garvie had 36 for Kincardine.

Third game of the series is scheduled for Saturday at 8:30 p.m. at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex while the fourth game is to be played Tuesday in Kincardine starting at 8:30 p.m.
