Grand River Gargoyles downed by Toronto Eagles

GUELPH – The Grand River Gargoyles were held scoreless in the third quarter in a 56-37 loss to the Toronto Eagles in Ontario Australian Football League play Saturday at Margaret Greene Park.

The Eagles led 25-13 at the end of the first quarter, 37-20 at halftime and extended their lead to 48-20 after the third quarter.

Ben Knowles had two goals for the Gargs while Davis Thorne, Michael Kasunic and Jeremy Schwartzentruber each had one.

Jay Himat connected for three goals for Toronto while Kevin Minaker had two and Aaron Falcioni, Julian Biondillo and Jordan Van Ross struck for one apiece.

The result leaves the Gargs at a win and a loss while the game was the season opener for the Eagles.
