Grand River Gargoyles get off to quick start in victory

GUELPH – Big first and fourth quarters sparked the Guelph Gargoyles to a 76-53 victory over the Toronto Central Blues in Ontario Australian Football League play Saturday at Margaret Greene Park.

The Gargs outscored the Blues 26-7 in the first quarter and 21-8 in the fourth quarter.

The locals led 39-26 at halftime and 55-45 after the third quarter.

Stephen McLeod scored five goals for the Gargs while Jeremy Schwartzentruber had three and Ian Alexander had one.

Ryan Balmer had three goals for Toronto Central while Braedy Walker and Daniel Zimmerman scored two apiece.

The Gargs have two wins and a loss and are fourth in the eight-team standings with eight points and a 120.27 percentage.

Toronto Central is seventh with two losses and a 41.14 percentage.

The Gargs have a bye in Round 4 and are to play the High Park Demons at Etobicoke’s Humber Park June 24 at 2:30 p.m.

The Demons are eighth with three losses and a 4.41 percentage.
