Gryphon field hockey women knocked out by York

TORONTO – The Guelph Gryphons saw their OUA women’s field hockey season come to an end Saturday when they were edged 3-1 by the York Lions in a semifinal match at York’s Alumni Field.

York scored a pair of goals just over three minutes apart in the first quarter to head to the win.

The Gryphs got one of those goals back in the second quarter, but the Lions finished the scoring with a single goal in the fourth quarter.

Ella Rideout scored for the Gryphs with help from Elly Peters.

Kathy Carlow, Elise Piper and Elyse Ives had a goal each for York. Getting one assist each were Jewel Lew, Ives, Piper and Lexi Hannah.

The Lions outshot the Gryphs 4-2 while both teams took four penalty corners.

It’s the second straight year the Gryphs have been ousted from the semifinals by York.
