Gryphon hockey women drop Brock Badgers

GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons struck for two goals in each of the first and third periods to drop the Brock Badgers 4-1 in OUA women’s hockey play Thursday night at the Gryphon Centre.

Brock’s lone goal was a power-play marker late in the second period.

Hannah Tait opened and closed the scoring for the Gryphs while single goals were added by Meaghan Chittick and Chihiro Suzuki. Getting one assist apiece were Sydnie Miller, Tori Verbeek, Maeve Sutherland-Case, Tiana Faccio, Reese Coffey, Rylee Davison and Jaime Magoffin.

Randyll Strongman had the goal for Brock while Madelyn Walsh set it up.

The Gryphs outshot Brock 26-16 and went 1-for-6 on their power play while Brock went 1-for-2.

Martina Fedel had 15 saves for the Gryphs while Kenzie Harmison had 23 for the Badgers.

The Gryphs lead the West Division at 3-1-1-1 (W-OTW-OTL-L) and are followed by the Laurier Golden Hawks and Waterloo Warriors both at 3-1-0-1, Windsor Lancers at 3-0-2-1, Brock at 3-0-0-3 and Western Mustangs at 2-1-1-1.

Next up for the Gryphs is a Saturday match with the York Lions (sixth in the OUA East at 0-0-0-4). Game time at the Gryphon Centre is 2:30 p.m.
