Gryphon lacrosse men clout Nipissing for fifth straight win

NORTH BAY – The Guelph Gryphons recorded their fifth consecutive win in Canadian University Field Lacrosse Association play Sunday as they clobbered the Nipissing Lakers 12-1 on the Nipissing University Student Athletics Field.

The Gryphs scored the first four goals of the game to start on their way to the victory.

The Gryphs led 2-0 at the end of the first period, 5-1 at halftime and 9-1 after the third quarter.

Robbie Baxter led the Gryphs with three goals and two assists while Liam Aston and Gavin Thibeault scored twice apiece. Single goals were added by Ben Doherty, Nicholas Volkov, Liam Dietsch, Max Baker and Matt Allen. Doherty and Owen Kelly each had two assists while single assists were awarded to Aston, Volkov, Dietsch and Nick Nigro.

Jesse Ashkewe had an unassisted power-play goal for Nipissing.

Shots on goal were not recorded.

Logan Pagano was in net for Guelph while Wyatt King was in net for Nipissing.

The Gryphs are second in the West Division at 5-1. Western Mustangs lead at 5-0 while the Gryphs are followed by the Brock Badgers at 3-1, Laurier Golden Hawks and McMaster Marauders both at 3-2, Toronto Varsity Blues at 1-4, Nipissing at 1-5 and Laurentian Voyageurs at 0-6.

The Gryphs are to play the Badgers at Brock’s Alumni Field Friday at 8 p.m.
